It’s Pixel Fix Friday! (Sort of.)

Wherein I (sometimes) post one or more photos I’ve taken, and write about ‘em. And that’s it. No biggie. Just a pixel-fix on my part. Each and every (occasional) Friday.

We are defined by our challenges.

This is what I have learned.

It doesn’t matter what your strengths are, if you can’t overcome the challenges that stand in the way of you making use of them.

Personally, I have trouble finding focus. I have many ideas and many plans, but often struggle to implement them because of a lack of focus. And this frustrates me to no end.

But you know what? I am here. And I am well.

And in this world, these days, that is really quite something.

So I am taking part in The Ride to Conquer Cancer this year and, once again, I am faced with the challenge to focus.

I have never done anything like this in my life.

I have never ridden 200 kilometers on my bike over two days straight. I’ve never actually had to train for something. Never had to set out an exercise schedule and eating regimen in preparation for a two-day bike trek over 200 kilometers.

But there is a first time for everything.

And I am going to do this thing.

For me, for my friends, for all who struggle with this and other diseases.

For all who struggle with being human, really. As I do.

I will find the focus to do this thing, to help others.

Because I can.

And because this is what life is about: facing challenge.

And it is, in the end, what defines us.

Thanks for reading.

P. S. If you would like to help me out on this journey, then please donate to my campaign–whatever amount, however small–so that we can make a difference together, somehow, somewhere. Visit my Ride to Conquer Cancer personal page for more information, or to donate online, or by mail.

And thank you.

Awesome! The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a blast – I rode in the 2009 and 2010 rides (Nicole rode with me in 2010, too). Absolutely amazing experiences. You can totally do the ride – it’s not a race – but definitely do some training so you don’t barf up lungs on the hill climbs.

Yeah. Yeah! Good advice. Must not barf up a lung–that would be bad.

And D’Arce! Your pictures from the two rides you did are STUNNING. I will hope that we get that kind of weather this year, and I am heartened by the pic of the fellow with the wine bottle in his jersey. (Yes. Excellent attitude, that.)

And, for myself, I shall act as bikerly as possible at all times.

Now I must go find you on Flickr.

And thank you SO MUCH for the donation. You are an awesome person, my friend. :)

Ha, ha. Too funny. I had to snoop on the 2009 photos above since that was the year I rode. The vino picture… One of my teammates!

Ha! No way. Seriously? Wow. Small world. :)
